Program and Services: Mental Health
In 2017, NUY birthed a new and independent Mental Health Youth Board. This first generation of youth tackled some enormous challenges in the field of mental health for youth. NUY provides access to mental health professionals in times of need. NUY provides training and opportunities for youth to learn about mental health and to take charge of a lagging culture when it comes to understanding youth mental health. NUY can help with relational referrals to therapists based on our relational approach to youth. We’ve found too often that youth stop seeing a therapist they were randomly assigned to, rather than seeking out a different professional who may be a better fit for their personality.
Our Mental Health Youth Board have challenged our medical system to rethink the care they are giving to everyone walking in their doors, they have hosted forums to help adults and youth discuss youth mental health, and they have worked hard to be change agents in our community. Follow our Facebook page to learn more about their upcoming programs. For more information on how to become involved, email emily@unionofyouth.org
